Smash & Tack

Got a spare wall? Some old vinyl records? Need to physically exert some pent up aggression?

Then… do what my girl Cat did and exploit that hostility in the best way possible by smashing up some records to create some glorious wall art. Yay!

The fantastic and very effective results of that particular assault are below, splendidly modeled by the ever-effervescent Pawel…

The beauty of this little creation lies in its simplicity – Cat bought some records from Vinnies, reveled in smashing them to smithereens and blue tacked them onto the wall with some imaginative flair.

Breaking a record to bits looks easy enough, but unless you want to have smashed bits of vinyl littering the nether regions of your unit/flat/house until the end of time and covered in cuts (like Cat) I think an easier way would be to wrap the record up in a towel, then break the bits with your hands (or hammer) until you hear snap.
Then, just blue-tack on the pieces onto a wall and tada!

Nice…

About Penelope Quinn

Belonging to Gen X/Y may have rendered me a rabid, shameless consumer by proxy, but I’ve always been averse to mass production. Whether gleefully sifting through op shops, antique fairs and roadside hard rubbish or mum’s sideboard cupboard, I'm always delighted at how many unearthed treasures can be recycled into something fabulous. And best of all, each one-of-a-kind item has its own fascinating tale and character that no store-bought item could ever emulate. Even if did need a bit of TLC or a lick of paint (or a complete overhaul). If you love enhancing the everyday and cherishing the past, then thanks for joining me on my quest to keep the home-made alive at http://darnsexysecondhand.wordpress.com xPenelope Quinn
